Current Issues — 26 May 2011
Constant vigilance is required to hold off threats to recreational fishing and ensure abundance of all New Zealand’s fisheries is ongoing. New Zealand’s fisheries are shared fisheries and are vulnerable to impact from land use activities and overfishing. Threats to recreational fishing therefore come from many different directions and sources. We group current issues in two ways. First are the issues that the NZRFC consider important and worthy of current concern and attention. Second are those issues the Ministry of Fisheries is consulting on. Sometimes current issues fall into both groups yet often what the Ministry of Fisheries consider important is not always the priority issue for recreational fishers.
